Acquapendente: is a charming town in Tuscia, nestled between the green hills of Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria and the valley of the Paglia river. It is also known as "the Jerusalem of Europe” as the oldest copy of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem is found in its Basilica. Acquapendente is also the city of ancient Pugnaloni and large mosaics are created with flower petals and leaves, whose festival takes place on the third Sunday of May.
Torre Alfina: is a pretty medieval village dominated by its beautiful and majestic castle. This small village attracts many tourists who flock to visit the enchanted wood of Sasseto, today a location for films and photographic sets.
Civita di Bagnoregio: also known as "the dying city", founded approximately 2500 years ago by the Etruscans, today it can only be reached on foot by crossing the suspension bridge, from which you can see a magnificent view of the surrounding eroded gullies. For many years this strange place has drawn visitors from all around the world.
Orvieto: an ancient Etruscan city, which sits on a mesa, set like a jewel above the green Umbrian countryside. It boasts one of the most beautiful Gothic masterpieces in all of Europe, the Duomo. It is recommended to visit the Pozzo di San Patrizio and the beautiful historic centre.
Bolsena and its Lake: Lake Bolsena is the largest one of volcanic origin in Europe, complete with islands Martana and Bisentina. Overlooking the lake: Marta, Capodimonte and Bolsena. Three small villages, each more suggestive than the other. There are many restaurants where you can taste typical lake dishes: whitefish, pike, eel and tench.
The Etruscan tuff stone towns of Sorano, Sovana and Pitigliano:
Pitigliano: Located in southern Tuscany, halfway between Grosseto and Viterbo, Pitigliano is a village rising from a mesa tuff stone. To visit the historic centre and the Jewish ghetto with the ancient synagogue, which lends its nickname “little Jerusalem”.
Sovana is a splendid Etruscan village, in the tuff stone region located near Pitigliano, and deserves an in-depth visit for its thousand-year history and unique monuments and works of art. What to see: the Etruscan necropolis, the Vie Cave, the ancient village with the Cathedral, historic buildings and the Rocca.
Sorano is a village that was once an Etruscan city bathed by the Lente river. Like Pitigliano it is perched on a mesa cliff and dug into the tuff stone. To see: the ancient village with its winding alleys, the Orsini Fortress, the Masso Leopoldino, San Rocco, the Vie Cave and the castle.
San Casciano dei Bagni: is a renowned Tuscan village in the province of Siena, characterised by the presence of numerous sulphurous hot water springs throughout its territory. Not to be missed is a relaxing day at the Terme Fonteverde spa, enjoying its many services and treatments. Today this small town is known worldwide for its recent archaeological excavations that have brought back into the light a whole thermal sanctuary and a 24 bronzes from Etruscan-Roman era. It is considered the largest treasure found intact from the Etruscan-Roman era.
Bagno Vignoni is a delightful village situated along the ancient pilgrim road known as the “Via Francigena”, in the province of Siena. Here you will find the healing thermal waters that have been used for purposes since the times of the Romans. The square is characterised by a large medieval pool where the water flows from the earth at a temperature of 50°C. It is a fascinating and unique place to stop for a good glass of wine and to taste some excellent cold cuts and cheeses.
